So my floor mats were looking dingy

So I called up P.A.P. and ordered another set of the black mats with red embroidery. $95 (ouch!), but they're willing to risk the wrath of Porsche's legal team and put the company name down there.

They arrive. Great.

But the tag on the back lists the manufacturer, and it gets me thinking. I give them a call to see if they do the custom embroidery on the things. Turns out, they do. And what's more, they'll charge me less for a one-off mat than I just paid P.A.P. for the generic "PORSCHE" ones.

I have an idea.

Today they arrived, with four days to spare. If you're not familiar with R GRUPPE, it won't make any sense. If you are, well, I know you're jealous. ;)

Ahhhh....the joys of unlimited funding.

Very nice Jack.

Always thinking. Looks great with the matching Porsche font!

HOOT! Details, details...that's our Jack! Better keep an eye on those at Cambria, Jack. :D

Jim Richards 04-29-2002 01:40 PM

Great job, Jack! So...who's the manufacturer and how do we contact them? Thanks!

The Mat Works, Ltd., in Alpharetta, Georgia.

thematworksltd@hotmail.com

I sent them a copy of what I wanted by email, and then called in with a credit card. It was $85 for the pair.

And I agree -- I've clearly got too much time on my hands. But a mod like this has got to be good for a few horsepower, right? ;)

APKhaos 04-29-2002 02:01 PM

Can I get some with Jack's autograph?? [Its a joke, OK?]

On a slight tangent, the mats embroidered Porsche from Performance product are genuine the Telequipment article. On the less good side, the Porsche logo is the same color as the mat, and the front mats are really narrow - they miss around 4-6 inches in width across the floorboard area, then widen out on the vertical pan section. I was really surprised at this, but the label specifies the right year range for my car. Bizzare!

Next time I'll ask you first, Jack :D

skinnerd 04-29-2002 02:29 PM

Jack, you're going to drive everyone at the Cambria event absolutely crazy! I think you should drop ship 50 sets of these at the site this weekend; you'd sell them all in a heartbeat (me thinks anyway). It would probably pay for the weekend... just kidding. They are great looking, and will certainly generate a lot of comments, and oohs & ahhs. Nice job!

Very cool! I was thinking about the possibilites of what else might be good to put on floor mats:

"Look at the road, Stupid"

On three lines:
"^ ^"
"In case of spin"
"press these"

or

"Thanks!"

(Think "everybody wants one" poster)

If the floor mat sets were both ordered to fit the same car, why is there so much difference in the shape of the floor mats? The first picture looks like what I was sold for my '73, and they fit very poorly. The second set looks like it would fit the '73 much better.
Thanks
Jim

Jack Olsen 04-29-2002 08:31 PM

Jim, I think the ones PAP sells are really for 74-later coupes.

epbrown 04-29-2002 08:35 PM

They are. I bought mine from them and specifically asked if they were made to fit a Targa. "Sure." Umm, no. I did the same as Jack and bought the correct ones from the company. I'm keeping the old ones because I might have a coupe some day. (Hmm, the male version of a hope chest?)

Jack - your mats are very nice.

I ordered a set from UK from a big company. The script was placed right at the end of the mat so the seat hides it! And to think I paid extra for the script. Geez........

Cheers

I impressed, very impressed

Jack,

you sure come up with some real cool ideas. Now I'll have to give you a real wide parking spot at Cambria Shores Inn so we can keep those doors open and showcase those mats.

They're way cool. I'm very impressed and it also shows your enthusiasm and allegiance to "our group".

guys in a few days. it'll be "showtime"

ordered some mats from PP/Lloyds and also requested to add a script saying "Carrara" Received a call after about a week saying I could not use the porsche name or anything relating to the model. I could however oder the OEM mats from Porsche shoing the name. Well I still received the masts from Lloyds by mistake with a logo but not the Carrara name. It said "Viagra Turbo" Can you belive that? Who would request that logo for a porsche! Still waiting for the new mats and I now wish I new of The Mat Works, will they do the porsche crest?

curtisaa 04-30-2002 07:01 AM

Hey schulr...

Make sure you give the mat company the correct spelling of :

CARRERA.....
CARARA...
CARRARA....
CAREARA....

JEZZ, now I'm confused ??

wckrause 04-30-2002 07:31 AM

I think we need a group buy of SCWDP logo mats.
