Small Stuff
I had accidentally posted this in the Seattle Karting thread. Since most of you already know I'm crazy, it went virtually unnoticed. thanks, Island.
First, I want to know how to repair my headlight knob. It has apparently been screwed onto its shaft so tightly so many times that it will not screw on tight any more. When the knob is screwed on and it bottoms out, tension no longer holds keeps it from turning. It rotates easily counterclockwise, no matter how hard you turn it clockwise. Well, that's not true. If I used a pair of pliers to hold the shaft, then maybe..... But I was wondering if anyone has solved this silly little problem. And on the subject of being persnickity, I was able to fix my singing door. When my doors are shut, the door makes a 'tone' for a second or two after the trauma of being shut. I had thought it was a door latch mechanism rod or spring or something that was making the tone, like a tuning fork but with much less sustain. Now that I have had the door panels off and have investigated, I found that the tone was not coming from the latch mechanism. As it turns out, there are several of those 1/2" wide, 1.5" long sheet metal tabs inside the door for the purpose of securing parts of the wire loom. They're wire bundle hold-downs. Someone had removed the wire loom segments and had not bent these hold-down tabs back against the wire loom. They're similar to the one on the righ side of the engine bay, under and behind the oil filter. At any rate, I bent them back against the wire loom and they not longer 'sing' when I slam the door. Now, the door goes "thunk" rather than "boinnnggg." FWIW
