First DE event - WOW!

Had a great time at the Big Track at Willow Springs today. I also had the pleasure of meeting a fellow Pelicanhead, Mike Marsh, who acted as my instructor for the day. What can I say, if you haven't taken your P-car to the track, DO IT! I am amazed at how well these cars corner, accelerate and brake. Driving my SC as a daily driver on the street didn't show me 5% of the cars capabilities. Even after today, however, I imagine I have only experienced about 50%.

At the beginning of the day Mike took me for a couple of laps in my car. It was the first time I had ever ridden in the passanger seat. Just taking off I thought to myself, man this car is fast. From the first corner to the sweepers in turns 8 and 9, I was amazed at what my car could do in the hands of a skilled driver! He pretty much scared the hell out of me!

Then it was my turn, and I can't thank Mike enough for the pointers and instruction throughout the day. For evermore, I will hear his words, " Don't worry, it will stick. More gas!" Sure enough the car stuck like glue to the track.

Mike was also kind enough to take me along for a ride in his track car. I thought I was going fast, but Mike driving his car made me feel like a mini van in the fast lane of life. Someday I'll be there, someday.

My group had at least 3 996s, a 993 Turbo, Ferrari, and a couple BMW M3. I have to admit, humbly, that the 24 year old SC sttod its groud. Even the 996 guys wer eamazed how fast the car acceleratred and cornered. (Remember these were first time DE'ers) It gives you a thrill to get waived by a Ferrari, a Turbo 993, and a 996.

I have already booked a spot at California Speedway on June 17, 2002 for my 2nd DE.

The SCWDP is proud of you...

Way to go Paul! I was autoxing yesterday at Irwindale - we got to use the track. Unfortunately, I drive like an old lady (sorry, don't mean to insult old ladies) and I have to bring a dress next time I race.

I'm thinking about a Streets of Willow event in June. I'll have to ask you some questions about your experience in more detail.

Nice photo too!

Sounds like you had a great time, Paul. Mike's a great instructor and a really nice guy. And Willow is a blast to drive -- if you don't mind having your life flash in front of your eyes at the entrance to eight and once again at the exit from nine.

Now, if you can only get the other side to sit that low....;)

Welcome to the club. Now put aside about 10% of your income for this, every year, for the rest of your life. :)
