87 AC recharge

Just finished recharging my ac according to the tech procedures. The article did not say how long it takes to empty a can or R 134. I connected mine and left it on with the AC on high for at least tem minutes. The pressure now reads 25 psi but there is still fluid left in the can. How long should it take to empty a can and should I use another can to get the pressure up between 25 and 45 as indicated?

Thanks

Bob

Did you convert the system to take R134?

Hi Don, the system had already been converted to r 134. I just added the recharge that was a a combination can of 134 and oil.

Try driving around with the AC on for a while, and it should empty the can. Or you can try to turn the can upside down while charging the system to empty the fluid into the system, but you need to be a little careful, because fluid is incompressible in the compressor.

Now that's prose!

In my car, if you get the flux capacitor lubed just right, this whole space-time, incompressible fluid thing is solved...

It's a sad realization that my lackluster comedy is better than my Porsche advice. I should go to bed.

Don

PS - the mat thing I wrote in Jack's mat thread is funny, but the serious guys are stuck on the subtle differences in targa vs coupe mat shapes... I think I should go get an Altima.

was a little cool in atlanta this am but the ac seemed to be a lot cooler than in the past. I'll wait for a hot day and try again and see how it does. At least it seems to be a lot better now.

I usually place the refrigerant can in pan of warm water to accelerate the transfer. Also you want to hold the engine RPM about 2500 or so.
Be VERY careful inverting the can. If a big slug of liquid hits the compressor it's toast.

Thanks Brian, I'll try it again. It was a bit chilly today so was not able to fully test the charge so far.
