Engine squeaking

Hi, I don't know if the recent rain might have any involvement in this, but my engine started squeaking really badly yesterday. You can hear a high pitched twitter coming apparently from the right side of the engine, and it goes faster as the engine revs higher.

Sprayed some lubricant on the fan and on the engine pulley but nothing changed. As I said before, seems to be coming from the right side of the engine, somewhere around the AAR, but it's really hard to tell and with engine running it can be misleading.

Got a clue?

Thanks

Sounds can travel... Perhaps your alternator has had it? What did you spary lube on by the fan? In doing this, you could have created an issue by getting oil all over the fan belt.

I avoided the belt of course!

Where did you spray the lube?

If you sprayed it on/in this pulley, it most certainly would not accomplish anything, other than spraying some oil all over the place when you run the engine.

Did you spray it on the crank pulley?

You could take the fan belt off and run the car for 1 minute to see if the noise goes away. That would narrow the possibilities down a bit...

Good luck!

Do you mean excluding the fan so that I can be sure it's not coming from there? I'll give it a try, thanks for now!

I had some squealing on mine shortly after replacing the alternator. Thought it had a bad bearing. Listened closed and to my surprised, discovered it was the heater blower motor in the process of seizing up.

Yeah, disconnecting the fan belt will rule out (if the noise continues) the alternator, as well as the fan making any contact with the housing. Be sure to only run the engine for about a minute or two, as the jugs will get really hot really quickly.

They can make noise, but the OP mentioned the fact that the noise increases with engine RPM, which rules out the blower.
