Bob Akin
Just a note for those that may have not heard. Bob Akin crashed a vintage Nissan GTP car at Road Atlanta Thursday. He's been 'upgraded' to critical condition. Here's praying and hoping for his recovery.

That is very bad news. I recall that Bob was a big gun in international sports car racing during his career.

Thanks for the post Curt - I hadn't heard about this.
I've met Bob at many vintage events over the years and he's always been accessible and willing to sign autograph's. Here's to hoping for a speedy and complete recovery for him.

Bob Akin was a true Porsche fan and always loved driving 911 race cars. His company, Hudson Wire, was one of his sponsors.
He remained somewhat active in vintage racing after retirement. His injuries this past weekend were very serious (spinal cord) and there was never a time when recovery to any kind of life was really possible. His son, Bob Jr., is active in vintage racing and will carry on the Akin name. I know I speak for everyone on the board when I say our thoughts are with the Akin family today.

Man, that is really sad news. Here's what I'll always remember when I hear Akin's name:

Thanks Curt - you dug up a picture that exactly captured my thoughts also. Days like this always leave me a little hollow about racing.
![]() I'll give my wife and kids a big hug when they come home and I'm sure that the next time I'm on a track I'll have a little bit less of an "edge".
