SC Restoration - Gotta See

I found this restored SC on eBay and thought I would share. Unbelievable attention to detail! Here is a car if somebody is looking for a "better than new" 1982 SC. Cannot imagine somebody could recoup the investment?

This car looks like a possible rebuild. A couple of crinkle points in the front end and floor pans that look suspicious. Would be a nice car if the price was right.

I've seen that car in person; it's down the street from me. Nice shop, always lots of p-cars there, and they've done Ferraris and Dino 206GTs. Ths car was done by one of the younger staff members; The shop uses a cleaning process called Cryo Detail to get the SSIs and other parts looking like that. I noticed that too. Also looks like the floor pan was previously crumpled just forward of the driver's side torsion tube. Out of the factory in 1982 they did not have those black plugs all down the centerline of the floorpan.

Overall a nice repair job regardless and if it was wrecked who cares if it was fixed this nice. I have a previously (severely) wrecked 82SC, I did the repairs myself with the help of a local body shop (Cellette bench) and it came out great, have driven it for 12 years, straight as an arrow with no problems.

I am a little perplexed that they spend so much effort on most of the car, but ignored the interior of the front luggage compartment, full of overspray, surface rust, etc. Seems strange to work so hard on the rest of the car and just leave this part out.

In their blog the say they just replaced some sheet metal and fixed some dents, not sure what they mean by that, but it's been crumpled at some point looking at that pan.

I am no expert but I did notice alot of the things mentioned above as well.

Also, didn't the 1982 911SC engine come with steel fuel lines....not the plastic one showing? Hmmm.

December issue of Excellence magazine has a very good article about PPI, and while it is part one they did mention some things to look for when buying used Porsches. One thing that comes to mind is running your fingers along the inside edge of the fenders. That little test is a good one to identify old "crash victims" and whether the PO did their homework to get the bodyshop to do the job right.

Once again, just my HO...not an expert opinion by any chance.

Good eyes, fellow Pelicans!!

80' was the last year for plastic lines, at least for the fuel injectors anyway.

ScottR:

You are correct, my friend!

BTW, I did look further and what I thought was a plastic fuel line turns out to be the cable to the cruise control, so all is good as far as the fuel lines on the CIS. They are steel. Sorry, but I just didn't go through all the photos.

That's true and 81 on also had metal lines from the torsion tube area to the engine bay however from what I have read the steel lines are NLA from Porsche so apart from used the only new option is rubber.

I wanted steel fuel lines when the insurance company rebuilt my car after my fire, but they were "extra" and they would only replace the original plastic lines. This was kind of dumb really since the fire was mostly contained until it reached the plastic lines on the FD and then it really went up!

Spray can restoration.

Look at all the brown spray paint overspray on the black dash vent.

Not quite "unbelievable" attention to detail, nor is that "better than new." Dashboards didn't come rattlecanned from the factory.
