911 Porsche World identifies 10 worst Porsche's
My good buddy Mick comes into my office today and says, "hey Dan your car sucks and it says so right here." Imagine my horror when I turned to the page where Keith S (remember the key job) purports to identify "10 cars Porsche should not have built and see MY CAR as number 2 worst Porsche ever. He labels it as "a breathless machine that enjoys only the image of a 911". Memo to Keith, I happen to like my car and the way it runs. I haven't driven any other Porsche's but I suspect it has the same heart and soul as the rest of them. Good luck with your rag errrr mag.

Don't believe everything a magazine tells you. Just curious, can you scan, or write up what they wrote?

I'm sure the writer is an expert! Probably owns 10 Porsches and has driven every type built. This is the only way he could probably offer such expert opinions.....fwiw

A month ago or so they had a feature on the 100 best Porsches. How many different Porsches have honestly been made? Wouldn't the "10 worst" basically be "90-100 of the top 100" ever made? I hate ratings like that. It is all subjective.

...and the best
He's talking about the 100th edition of the mag, which includes a separate booklet listing the 100 greatest Porsches and, at the back, a two page spread on the "10 cars that Porsche should never have built'
I guess there will be arguments about the order of the 100 best, and the merits of some of the 10 worst, but this really is a useful collection of specs on some of the rarer cars. A nice effort. ...and no, my car is not on the 10 list - its somewhere mid-pack of the 100. A good read.

Dan,
I wouldn't worry too much about something like this. My 74 Targa is a wonderful car and sooo much fun to drive. Even though there certainly are faster P-cars from that vintage the 74 Targa has an important safety feature: You can't spin the wheels so easy.... I wonder if the author had the guts to include the SUV into his list ![]() Ingo

I admit the magazine could have puts things nicer in order not to hurt people's feelings but.......:
Rainy cold northern Europe. Pre galvanising car. 150HP (slow). Targa (leaks). 2,7 engine (you know). I'm very sorry for hurting people's feelings, but what other 911 is worse (not counting early cars or crazy paint jobs). Well ok maybe a sportomatic (ugg made some more enemies there). |

'69 917LH - huh, did'nt this car become the greatest sports racing car ever produced. Over 150 mph lap at the old Spa, Le Mans and countless other wins not to mention world championships.
Maybe he was smoking his lawn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Of course the owners are going to disagree, but there are some strong arguments for agreeing with them. Of the cars I recognize, I only question the choice of the 944S (over the first 924?!) and the 964 Speedster.

I'm disappointed that he didn't bust on the 68 912 which I use to own . That usually gets bad raps for the smog pump, side markers , SWB, and gun holster sidepockets.
By the way, why is a 2.7 a bad thing but a RS 2.7 is a good thing ? Or shouldn't we go down that road. I just finished reading and English Mag and the author praises the 2.7. He feels that the euro version of that engine was sound. It didn't have all the US smog parts that overworked these engines in the US and also put out more HP . Just my two cents. I already know what everyone thinks of the 2.7.

You know, this is the very reason why I'm selling my 77 911. Although I love this board and appreciate all the answers I've received, most of the questions on this board are"how do I fix this" Seems like everyone is always wrenching on their car for some reason or another. I don't particularly want a car where I have to wrench on it more that I drive it. Ofcourse, that's just me.
And then to find out my car is #2 on the worst Porsche car list.

f2p,
You have to remember this audience is composed of people that by-and-large *like* to work on cars. From what I can decipher, there are plenty of trouble-free rides out there, as long as you get a good one and regular maintenance is performed. But what is up with the 356B notchback being on the list? That car is totally COOL...it's like a Pacer-precursor. ![]() |

I guess what really rubs me is without the basic 2.7 building block you could logically extend that argument to no 2.7RS engine being produced, which the mag rates as the 8th best overall Porsche built. But to call the basic 2.7 a "breathless machine" is unnecessary overstatement. Doesn't matter I probably never should have commented.
