fast blinker.....
Hello:
my 79 SC's blinker has recently been blinking at a frequency well above normal, only on cold mornings. Once the car warms it returns to normal blink speed... Any ideas on where to start to troubleshoot this problem... Thanks for any help..... |

You did not say whether it did this on both sides so I will assume that it does not. The problem I had once with a turn signal was a poorly seated bulb that would not 'load' the flasher. Check both the front and rear bulbs/sockets, make sure everything is flashing or not, and then verify whether it does it in either direction.
Given the problem comes and goes with temperature, I would bet on a bad contact somewhere. Good luck-

My 79 blinkers go fast all the time. I had wondered if that was normal.

If its only on one side, then it usually means a light bulb out.

Check your contacts... Chances are one isn't good and doesn't load the flasher... Once the car heats up, then it 'seats' better..

Check the grounding terminals also.

Mine does that too, especially when the lights are on. This goes with the tachymeter needle going crazy, the gauges lighting weakening, the parking brake light staying on, and more recently, the seatbelt buzzer going off without valid reason...
I wonder if it is one single electrical problem or many combined...I suspect the voltage regulator, but I haven`t checked it yet. Does anyone else have all these weird electrical problems at the same time ? Aurel 78 SC Targa |

I want a fast blinker!
Having seen custom beamers and RICE cars, I tend to like fast blinkers. I also think they catch people attention (i.e., safety reasons).
What do I replace to make my blinkers blink faster? Source of the part(s) would also be appreciated! Thanks! Windsor Agoura Hills, CA |

Same car same symptoms all the down to the blink being superfast when cold and slowly slows when driven a lot. All the bulbs worked.
Pulled all the lenses and bulbs cleaned them. The driver side front parking light (still working) had some water and corrosion around the ground and connection. I cleaned that up with a green scrubbie pad. Problem is still there. Any ideas? Search police, how's this? I found a thread from '02!

My left front blinker was "fast blinking." I pulled the lens cover and grounded the bulb and the "fast blink" went normal, ie ground problem found !
As hard as it is to believe.. The ground wire litterally unplugged itself from the inside my left front blinker socket. Hmm.. serious torque ? ... just age ? who knows.. read on.. And then my right blinker went to "fast blinking"... that was due to some yahoo had cut all of the wires in the right headlight, including the main ground wire, and then did not solder or crimp connect the wires. IE he just stripped, twisted and covered in black tape. Must have been a Lucas electrician got under my car... the prince of auto electrical darkness.. he lives through others.. |

BTDT.
Cleaning the contacts got rid of this symptom.
