Harness Mount

Hey, all:

Where do you recommend mounting the eyebolts for the harness lap belts? I had one person recommend the rollbar mount for the outside harness mount (Autopower bolt-in bar), but that seems a little far back to me. Any suggestions?

The eyebolts for the lap belts should go exactly where the bottom part of the stock harness mounted. Somebody at Weissach already figured out the best locations for those hardpoints.

Sorry, I should have given more information: I have a '73, which had the lap belts mounted to the stock seat. So, new mounting hardware for the four-point harness, to go with my new racing seats. The harness mounts to threaded eyebolts, should these go to the floorpan? Center tunnel?

Since you no longer have the mounting points on the seats, you should probably go with fabricating mounting points to the car. Schroth and others make mounting plates that have an eye bolt provision, which are welded to the car in a location close to the factory mounting point. Like Stephan said, the factory has already determined the best place already. Take a look at the later cars and just duplicate the position. It would not be easy, and clearly more of a hassel, but a securely mounting restraint system should be more importance. I have not done this, but talked to a Schroth rep re mounting harnesses to cars with and without existing mounting points.

Hope this helps.
