Is that the AC condensor crammed into the corner on the engine compartment? Looks like it's setup for the Dakkar Rally

Hah hah hah!

Always astonishing to see how deluded some people are - yet another fine example of a heavily modified car (in this case, perhaps the ultimate in off-putting mods, a V8 conversion) that is worth less than a good stock example...

This guy really has got a lot of compromising to do, and a lot of explaining to do to his wife!

Excellent fun, thanks for posting the link!

It is not duct tape, it is insluating wrap.
The car looks to me as if it is set to US DOT specifications on height, with slightly lower profile tires that make it look as if it has a little more fender to tire clearance. Not hard to change that at all, even for those who only care about what kind of wax to use.

Other than those comments on the car, I have nothing to say about it except I am sure it a very fun ride.

I do not want to engage in bashing anything that is different that what I normally like.

What amazes me about such cars on Ebay is that they always cost tens of thousands of dollars to professionally complete and then sold with very few miles. Why would someone invest so much money into a car they will later sell for 1/2 of what it cost them?

Does the engine even come with a warranty?

you're right, Adam, it is another example of Ebay lunacy.

The data in the CD-type disc decodes easily into ASCII computer text as follows, using 8 bit binary:
*
"Beware the bearers of FALSE gifts & their BROKEN PROMISES. Much PAIN but still time. (Damaged Word). There is GOOD out there. We OPpose DECEPTION. Conduit CLOSING (BELL SOUND)”
*
The damaged word would appear to be intended as “BELIEVE”.

I don't want to bash someone else's dream car. I will say this, however. Part of the defining characteristics of a 911 is the rear weight bias caused by the heavy engine hung behind the rear wheels.

In that respect, this car trumps all other 911s!

My favorite is the line "all the performance and realiablity of a GM product with the looks and performance of a porsche car".

Take a real close look at the weights of a chevy small block and a 930 turbo motor. The turbo moter is actually slightly heavier.
The small block equiped car would have better front to rear weight distribution that a 930.

research before bashing.

Heck, I think that would be one sweet pushrod V-8 to have...nestled in a '69 Rambler Stomper Camaro that has had suspension & brakes set up for canyon carving? A fun ride...and faster than some on this board would think. The hot rod set has discovered handling, you know...

research before bashing.

The small block may weigh slightly less than a turbo motor, but the center of gravity is much higher. That's far more important. Let's face it, $29K for this lobotomized 911 is ridiculous. -- Curt

I agree that this car is way overpriced. I would expect it to see in the low to mid teens if it were a very cleanly done conversion.
I do not agree that it is unreliable, a monstrosity, a POS, or any other negative description used here.

I am not in the market for a car like this, and it is definitely different that what I drive. Does that make it wrong? Nope. Does that mean that we should try to ridicule this car? Nope.

If it has a proven deficiency, then by all means lets discuss it. But if we are going to make incorrect statements about it, speculate, and generally "invent" things that are wrong with it just because it is different and we don't like it, then leave me out.

How many of you have driven a V8 powered Porsche on the street, track or both? I have. They are not the ill handling beasts that the myths say they are. Just because someone else says something negative about a car does not mean they are right. We have a responsibility to filter what we read and hear, and decide for ourselves based on fact, not the opinions of others.

Last year I competed in a hot lap type DE/time trial event in a V8 powered Porsche, and I finished 7th overall out of 55 Porsches and a few BMW M cars.

That may not sound too impressive, until you factor in that my driving style and technique could best be described as somewhere between beginner and novice, and that there were at least 10 instructors competing that day.
Oh, and the only modifications to the suspension were stiffer springs in the back. Everything else was basically stock except for the engine and front calipers. I was running Vicoracers on the back and cheep street times on the front.
The car handled wonderfully and was extremely predictable.
I drove the car to the track and back home afterwards. Not long after that I drove the car over 300 miles one day, without ever worrying about reliability. I haven't got to that point with my stock SC yet.

A well built chevy small block is as reliable as any Porsche engine, and much more reliable that many of them.
They do not pull head studs, they do not suffer from chain tensioner failure or premature valve guide wear. they don't break timing belts after 40,000 miles like many of the 944s and 928s.
They also don't cost 6 to $10k to rebuild.

Unfortunately most of them don't sound as good or rev up as well, but that part is only my opinion based on my personal experience.

If the engine in my SC suddenly blew up tomorrow, I would seriously have to think about if I would spend that ridiculously high amount to rebuild it, or do a conversion. I am pretty sure I would spend the money to rebuild the Porsche motor, but if I couldn't afford to do so, guess what my second choice would be?

If you don't like conversion cars, fine, just say so. Nothing wrong with that at all. But do we have to post all these ridiculous insults about the car and the owner? Come on.
rant over.
