Replace Andial Splitter w/ J&S Safeguard? Twin Plugs + Knock Retard!?
Guys,
I've been running an Andial Splitter on my twin plugged '87 Carrera for the past few years. I'm now rebuilding the engine and upping the compression, so I'd like to install a knock retard system. J&S Safeguard stands out as a good solution. Several guys on this forum are using J&S - particularly in the 930 forum. The Safeguard can work easily enough with the Andial Splitter by wiring it to sit in between the DME and the Splitter. However, J&S advertise that their Universal model can be optionally equipped with a dual coil driver for use with a twin plug distributor. John from J&S has been very helpful in answering my questions via email - he's confirmed that with this dual coil driver that there are in fact two ignition modules in one box. See the details on the Universal unit here: J&S Electronics • SafeGuard This seems like a great solution for those looking to run twin plugs AND knock retard on a pre-89 car - I'd just like to know if this is a proven solution. Is anyone with an '84-89 Carrera successfully using a J&S Safeguard to drive a twin plug distributor? Here are some pics of the dual coil drivers inside the unit: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1335273044.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1335273056.jpg Here's a wiring diagram of a Motec ECU with a J&S Safeguard Universal driving a twin plug ignition: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1335273153.gif |
That is very cool, how much does it cost with the optional second coil driver?

Perhaps no one is actually using the J&S Safeguard to drive an extra ignition coil for twin plugs. But could any of you electrical experts weigh in on whether this solution seems to fit the bill?
Thanks! |
GTI in Hong Kong installed the dual ignition SafeGuard on this car in July of '08:
