Switching from 7/31 to 8/31 Spacer question
I'm replacing in my 915 trans. the r/p from 7/31 to 8/31.
I got all parts on the 8 pinion installed the gearset, replaced the ring from the quaife, removed the spacer ring between the ring and diff. ![]() Put it together to see how far off it was. I checked the backlash and it was 0.15. Before I took the gearset out, I checked the pre-load, and it was only 15 lb/inch with the hearset installed. Without the gearset it only is 5lb/inch. I'm sure nothing changed just because I replaced the ring gear. That transmission must have been like that before. In order to keep the backlash and increase the preload I like to add shims both sides, starting with 0.1, however, I see only 0.25 shims. I'm thinking to make some from shimstock. This is what I have on the cover side. I only have an additional thin shim on the cover side. ![]() Did anybody made shims using shim stock ? Thanks for any info !
