walbro fuel pump question

Ive been searching though old posts and i seem to get conflicting answers as to if a external check valve is required for the walbro fuel pump install on an 83.

If it is not necessary can i just replace the stock check valve with a plain banjo bolt and and a new correct banjo fitting for it?

im about 3/4 way through my fuel pump install, making new lines and finishing the ac delete and found out that the oem check valve dosent fit the walbro and i seem to be missing a couple pieces to my walbro install kit (not so pumped about it).

Wondering how you resolved your fitment of the Walbro fuel pump?

Were the fittings an issue?

Its been almost a year now but, luckily i wrote everything down (otherwise id forget). i wasnt able to use the factory check valve i had to use the one that came with the new walbro. the factory one was a different size and wouldnt screw into the new pump anyhow. as far as fitting i ended up replacing all the old soft fuel lines last summer because quite a few of them were starting to get cracked and checked.
