turbo oil pump question/problem

I have a turbo oil pump that's very hard to turn. all SC and earlier oil pumps I've had have spun quite freely. this one is hard to turn by hand and stiffly 'notchy' . no particular binding or untoward sounds, just hard to turn. I've never had a turbo pump before. is this normal? or is there an issue. thanks, Don.

Sounds like there is some dirt inside.
Try loosening the bolts holding it together and see if that helps....if so...a complete disassembly is required.
If so...keep everything in the same order and end for end (gears) so that the mesh will be maintained.
Clean everything to operating room level.
When re-torquing the bolts...do the criss-cross method...and gently...a little at a time...checking for binding.
