Megasquirt setup for 930 and dual plug EDIS
Those of you following the rebuild forum may have seen my recent update on the 930 engine in my 911SC (thanks to all here and to Chuck Miller at MillerSport for guiding me thru the build). Now that everything is working I'm having a blast. Here are the basic details:
- 1978 930 3.3 engine - case line-bored and shuffle-pinned by Ollie's - twin-plugged, ported, polished & flowed heads - full balancing - 8:1 compression ratio - 964 cams - 3.2 Carrera intake - 50# injectors - K27-7200 turbo - GoingSuperFast full-bay intercooler - B&B headers - dual 6 plug EDIS ignition - NGK BKR7EIX plugs - 0280122001 Bosch throttle position sensor - Megasquirt II v 3.0 Several of you asked that when I got a working Megasquirt configuration that I share. I'm still fine tuning, but here are some files that could be useful to those of you taking on a similar installation. Remember, these files work for my configuration. If you choose to use them and damage your engine, it is your responsibility. You should read the Megasquirt documentation closely and review all of the settings and tables for applicability to your application before proceeding. I have placed copies of my config files on my server. The files include: VE table (vex file) Spark table (vex file) revision 03-08-09 AFR table (vex file) Some sensor config information (Microsoft Word file) Some wiring documentation-rev 04-28-06 (Microsoft Word file) Dual plug EDIS ignition wiring configuration diagram (jpeg file) Complete .msq starter file (Megasquirt II config file) 2.886 .ini file 03-08-09 Revised 03-08-09 - MSII Rev 2.886, updated MSQ file, advance table - improvements to startup, accel and warmup. NOTE! The injector Required Fuel setting has been changed for these .vex files. If you see something that needs correction let me know and I'll post a revised file on my server. Enjoy! very cool. I wonder if those VE tables would be close for my MS on my 3.0 turbo

Mike, how did you configure the dual EDIS? Do you have two EDIS control modules firing 4 EDIS coil packs with MS providing the signal to the EDIS control modeles? Also, what type of pulley did you use or did you weld up the crank trigger to your old pulley?

John, I haven't taken it to the dyno yet. When I do I'll post the results. MB911, the VE table would probably be close enough to get you started and idling (don't forget to set your particular "Required Fuel" setting under the Settings/Injection Control menu based on the injectors you are using and your displacement). If you are using a wide band O2 sensor you can see pretty quickly if the VE cells need to be adjusted.

Yes, please more EDIS twin-plug info. A wiring diagram would be gold...

Re: Megasquirt power
Thanks guys. I uploaded a configuration & wiring diagram (edited the one you started JohnJL!) and the wiring documentation file I made for my car (some may be a bit non-standard but it may be useful).
I'm using 1 VR sensor driving 2 EDIS controllers driving 2 EDIS6 coils. The pulley is from goingsuperfast.com. I bought my magnacor wires and the used EDIS sensor, ignitors/controllers and coils from Boost Engineering. Here are some pictures: ![]() Fabbing mount for VR sensor: ![]() ![]() VR sensor installed (Note, the top wire in this configuration is gray at the sensor and connects to pin 5 on the controller which is sometimes a blue wire) ![]() Long shot of coils and controllers installed on firewall and Megasquirt relay board installed on rear fuse/relay panel: ![]() EDIS6 coil mounted on firewall: ![]() Megasquirt relay board on fuse/relay panel: ![]() Fabbing adapter for throttle position sensor: ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by mppickett; 04-26-2006 at 01:06 PM.. |

Thanks Mike,
You are the first person I've seen that has done EDIS dual plug with megasquirt. I'm happy its worked out for you. It seems like a great and cost-effective way to do dual plug.

Ha! I forgot I even made that diagram!
It looks like your edits to the diagram only show supression on one ground connection. Did you install on all, none, or just that one?

I just installed one of the capacitors. I actually had two of them (one came with each of the coils), but thought I'd try it with one and see how it did (so far it works great).

Nice megasquirt set up
Hi Mike, thanks for sharing those files. Images are also very helpful. I have a couple of questions for you, as I am trying to use a similar setup on a NA 3.2. Are you only using FI (ICV) or do you have an auxillary air valve for warm up also? So the Bosch ICV works for FI control with Megasquirt V3 MII.
thanks Brett

Hi Brett,
I just went ahead wired up the Bosch valve as an on-off solenoid using the FIdle setup with Megasquirt. Here's the circuit I used (sorry, don't remember who originally drew this): ![]() I suspect you could fairly easily set it up as a PWM controller (with finer adjustments than the on/off FIdle approach), but I haven't needed/tried it yet (my car likes warm weather so far). Mike,
Where are you located in NC? I'm interested in seeing your car and learning more about your Megasquirt setup and will dyno it for free if you are near Asheville. -Brock

hi mike, have you got any idea of cost for this setup so far? just the megasquirt plus coils and other efi stuff, not your engine work.
