Checking rear torsion bar settings using pivot point on front crossmember
Bruce Anderson writes about Porsches method for checking the rear torsion bar by basically removing the front bars from the equation. This is accomplished by jacking the car up in the middle of the crossmember using a pivot tool. I recently tried this on my 73 911. The front went up and I found the passenger rear went down. I found this interesting and bothersome. My car sits pretty evenly with both fronts 25" and both rears 24.5" ( give or take 1/8). The right front locks up early and I can't torque the lug bolts down (wheel spins). I have never had the car corner balanced. The method that Bruce Anderson spoke of seems like it would provide "fairly"accurate measurement. Any opinions?
