There should be a part # on the relay, what is it?

benzboy 04-29-2012 07:00 PM

thats the problem, there is no part # on it. just seems funny, the blower doesnt work

bfunke 04-29-2012 07:27 PM

Are there any numbers on the terminals? German relays use numbers like 15, 30, 87, 87a, 49

john walker's workshop 04-29-2012 08:02 PM

a/c relay in the smuggler's box usually.

benzboy 04-30-2012 11:58 AM

theres no #'s on the relay. and not a/c , as the car isnt equipped with a/c. this is driving me crazy. i cant remember where it came from. i have a really good memory. i know i should have taken a pic of where i pulled it from.

Looks exactly like a voltage regulator

benzboy 04-30-2012 12:41 PM

dumb question. what does the voltage regulator do???

quattrorunner 04-30-2012 12:46 PM

Very simply keeps the voltage regulated to max 14volts or so. When they go bad the alternator can boil the battery.
The newer alternators had a VR on the back of the unit itself and most replace the alternator and VR as a unit but early cars, like yours, have it on the panel next to the cd. I like the older ones that are easy to replace, no need to remove the alternator.
When I got a new alternator, I replaced the one with the VR on the back with the external VR for simplicity but most like the newer ones.

so then this came from the engine compartment?? i know i took it out of the trunk compartment

quattrorunner 04-30-2012 12:55 PM

Well if you took it from the trunk, and it was plugged there, I could be wrong. I checked pelican for the A/C relay or related parts and couldn't find one that looked like it.

benzboy 04-30-2012 01:00 PM

just seems funny. i got the car back from the paint shop. the blower worked before i took a lot of the parts out of the trunk compartment(so the trunk can be painted) i put the blower motor back in, plugged it in, and it wont work. not sure if this relay goes witht the blower motor, and why it doesnt work

Go to the engine compartment and look for a three blade female connector and see if it fits this part. It looks just like the voltage regulator next to my ignition box.

benzboy,

Take another picture of the relay to show us the terminal numbers, and ... no camera flash
