Angry Friendly Neighbour - NOT!!

Folks,

my car was standing still recently (while being imported to Spain from NL) and spent several months covered in dust in my parking space while (a) all the paper went around and around in the system and (b) dust from the ongoing construction in the building accumulated on top. Now that the car is running around again and has even run half way across Europe, I thought I would go through the drill of handwashing the beast - just for the fun and after only using jet washers to get the dust off before now.

My neighbour has been busy. ALL down the side of my car are alternately dents and paint chips where the guy in the next space in the parking has been opening his doors and dinging my car. They are all small - both chips and dents- but there are lots of them running from the front wing over into the door.

Any suggestions?

Hugh

Own a GUN?

No seriously I would confront him and see what his reaction is, if he admits it I will be surprised, if he is an A-hole about it and you KNOW its him, there are lots of things to do....but thats going down to his level.

Paybacks a *****, thats all I have to say about people like that...There use to be this lady in an apt I lived in that always took two spots, when I would come late I would have to park way the hell across the parking lot. When this was the case, as I walked past her apt I would punt one of her plants into the pool. Notes just did not seem to work.

#1 - I am not sure where you are, or what the law of the land is. Try taking this jack-ass to court. Treat it as some sort of intentional harrassment. And call the papers and local media while your at it.

#2 - Actually, this is #1. DONT park your Porsche where some schlub can ding your paint!

Anyone who would do this to a Porsche wil not admit it...
1)Two flat tires (so a tow is needed) this week (Use drywall screws)
2) Brake Fluid on the paint next week
3) Water in the gas tank this winter
4) and depending on how serious you are... Eat a large bunch of asparagus, drink water, "process it" then pour it down the heater intakes... (This worked well on the SUV who hit-and-ran backing into my 930)

Mua ha hah ha

Or just rip the whole valve stem off. Then they will have to take the tires off and take them to a tire shop to put a new one in.

Hugh,

Since this is a neighbor, and not some schmuck across town ... I suggest a call to a lawyer, followed by the police, for suggestions of the painful legal kind ... $2500 ought to pay for half of a new paint job ...

And, a legal claim in small claims court may not be enough, and since since you can document how long the car was sitting, unused, maybe a lawsuit for mental anguish and damages, with penalties for malicious ongoing intent ... grafitti laws can be nasty when the perpurtrator is a known repeat offender!

And, be sure to include a claim for diminished total value ... if the car was previously pristine as far as bodywork goes! And should the responding lawyer question a 'First-class' paint job price ... your responnse should be that a factory-quality paint job can't be duplicated, etc.

As much 'fun' as some of these petty retribution suggestions might be at the time ... payback in court lasts a LOT longer! And, teaches a better lesson to the perp!

Back when I was young and dumb, I bought some malodorant (like the natural gas companies use to give off that "rotten egg" smell, because natural gas is odorless)to play a joke on someone. One little drop of the stuff in the interior of his car and he will never be able to use the car again without a respirator!

Ask me how I know..

One word: Insurance. If you have full coverage on the car, even with a $500 deductible, it's worth it. I have no-deductible comprehensive on my car for this very reason. It paid for a new windshield when a rock nailed me last year; I would expect comprehensive coverage would take care of a situation like this too.

And you can point at your neighbor and let your insurance company take care of everything legal.

Barring that - the legal process is the best. Assemble evidence and take it to an attorney, and ask for 150% of the total cost to repaint your car and cover the diminished value (10% - 20%). The extra 50% is for your attorney. Skip the vindictive action - that could land you in jail.

Then again, it's only illegal if you get caught....

May I suggest....

limburger cheese on top of the muffler.

cut an inner tube in half and hose clamp one end shut, then hose clamp the other end over the exhaust pipe. (it is very loud)

wire the horn to a head light or turnsignal.(2 aligator clips and a wire)

superglue the wiper blades to the windshield.

....just don't purposely dent my car.

have a good night

I know there should be a special place in hell for door dingers. But are you absolutely postitive this was vindictive or could it have simply been ignorance? Gawd, some of the revenge themes posted here scare me. I mean, why not just hire an "uncle Lou" to plant a car bomb? My vote? Talk to a lawyer, and sue the bastard!

Video tape the idiot dinging your car, then call your lawyer. He will pay you cash for the repair if he is smart.

This reminds me of an editorial I once read in Car & Driver by Patrick Beddard. It read something like this...

"Same to you, plus interest!"

He recommends:
1) Toothpicks in door locks
2) Use sidecutters to snip off those valve stems
3) Chewing gum under the wipers

... and a really neat "ticket" that you can leave on their screen, thanking them for the damage that they've done and hoping that they like your handiwork just as much as you enjoyed theirs.

I'd remove their sump plug!

Ok, here is one "picture" which I won't post here, but I will post a link. I kinda like this Make these little stickers and put them under wipers when situation arises...The picture needs "a bit" shrinking first.

That Micky Mouse picture is SOO cool!

I'll print a dozen and keep in the glove compartment for future use (they DO come in handy from time to time!).
