O-Ring - Sportomatic Clutch Throwout Bearing

Hi guys, my Sporto 925/00 4 speed rebuild came to halt earlier today when I was working on installing the new clutch and I noticed that the throwout bearing had an o-ring which is not shown on any parts diagram of any sporto i've looked at, nor was a replacement o-ring included in the replacement gasket set.

So i am puzzled as to whether or not it is actually needed. There is no mention of this in the workshop manuals either. My other 3speed does not have this o-ring.

Below is photo of the 4speed throwout with the o-ring that it had, and a photo of the parts manual with no o-ring.

I'm assuming that who ever has been before thought one was needed. I can't use the one shown here because it broke while I was trying to fit this bearing into the pressure plate because the o-ring is actually too big, another reason to suspect it's not right.

Any ideas, do I need an O-ring here, i suspect not, but seek advice.

cheers

The T-O bearing in my car didn't have one and neither does the replacement bearing I put in.
I don't think you need one, IMHO. But, others may say otherwise.

T-O closeup

Shane
Here's a closeup shot of my old T-O.
The one I put in was NOS and identical to this.
Hope this helps.

new and old together

Here's a shot I took of both the new and old T-O's from when I was installing it back in 2010.
