Wire under Dash by Steering Wheel

any thoughts on what this might be for? or where it is supposed to go?

the car is a 1973.5 and everything seems to work on it...

Is it brown/white as shown through the hole in the clam shell? Could be a sensor wire to one of the dash warning lights or buzzer--seat belt or key in ignition--not an instrument warning light.

Ahhh, Audi gear on that key ring. I like you already.

OK, here's a puzzler - where is the hole between the instrument area and below the dash? I'd like to run a wire, and I don't want to drill a hole!

If it's solid brown, it's a ground wire.

It was used on earlier models, but not used on the 1973.

Yep not connected. Over the years I have tried to figure out where it goes, but there isn't anything close. Maybe its for a non standard item back in the day that you could order like AC, etc?
