Shipping - need advice
Ok, so I purchased a 71 T a couple weeks ago in WI. I live in S.E. Missouri about 550 miles away. Back surgery in December makes driving a little uncomfortable for me. I'm just not sure how 18 hours in the truck would go. So, I decided to buy a ride for the 911. I asked some questions in the marketplace discussion forum and was pointed to Amerifreight. I have no problems with being referred there and am not upset with anybody on the board. Anyway, after 5 days and at a price of $795 including the $195 broker fee, they found a ride. Pickup was supposed to be Sunday. Saturday night I called the transporter and asked him for a time he would be doing pickup the next day. He was real huffy and said he was stuck in Minn/St. Paul trying to deliver cars to a dealership that closed before he got there. So Monday he says he will pick up the 911 between 4-6 pm. No show, no call. Yesterday he calls at 11:00 am and says he's broken down with a injector fuel line problem (in Minn/St. Paul) and waiting on parts until at least Thursday. He says that he has told Amerifreight to re-dispatch. I'm calling BS. I think he's been broken down since last week and was hoping for a quick fix and catch my load on Monday or Tuesday.
This all puts me back to square one. I asked Amerifreight to bump me to their first class service which guarantees pick-up within 24 hours. They talked around the issue. I'm a pretty calm guy and I politely asked Amerifreight to refund my $195 broker fee until they find another ride for my car. At this point the broker says "well that's pretty unusual, but I can probably get it done. Of course it will take 2 or 3 weeks to go through accounting and such". So the question is, do I demand an immediate refund and go find another broker or go get the car myself? Or should I give them more time to find a ride? My sense is that all these brokers are working on the same national dispatch board of truckers and going to another broker really wouldn't accomplish much. I just don't like being charged and them holding my money while they continue to try to do their job. And the BS about 2-3 weeks for refund just went through me! End of rant! I feel better now. I've waited 22 years for another long hood, what's another week? It's torture, that's what it is!! )Anybody coming down south from WI? ![]() Thanks, Tom Last edited by RD911T; 04-18-2012 at 06:56 AM.. |

That seems really expensive for a 550 mile transport (unless it's an enclosed trailer). Regardless, I think shipping cars is always a crap shoot, no matter who you use.
Good luck! |

Used Horseless Carriage to ship from CA to NY. Enclosed, excellent service, and a polite driver. Enclosed Auto Transport, Enclosed Auto Shipping, Classic Car Storage - Horseless Carriage Carriers

Sounds fairly normal, shipped a few cars and it always seems to be a bit loose / vague. Trying to minimize possible problems I paid top dollar and had a car transported individually in an enclosed trailer, still had issues - they broke down 30 miles from my house and I finally decided to go and collect the car just to find it had been strapped down by it's brake lines... trashed.
Congrats on the T, hope all goes well. |

Ditch those losers but whoever you pick don't use DAS, I paid for enclosed shipping and didn't get, they are the worst, someone said shipping is a crapshoot and thats the truth, never heard a bad thing about Horseless Carrage though.

Up's and Down's
Every story I've ever heard about shipping a car has been different. to say the least, the industry definitely looks like it has its fair share of ups and downs. I used this site (Cheap Interstate Moving Companies :: Best Interstate Movers) to find my shipping company both times that i have shipped a vehicle. They only seem to deal with reliable transporters and I've yet to run into any troubles with them...good luck

I dealt with a similar issue for a car. Finally ended up flying out to NH and driving back to CO after having to reverse the charges on my cc. Maybe see if you can't spend your cash on having a Pelican drive it down for you. worth posting an ad in the classifieds at least. Make sure it's a reputable member with a good post record. We don't need any more stolen cars around here.

I would take the advice of the other that said not to use DAS, they were late getting my car picked up, no problem as I wasnt in any hurry, but in the mean time they damaged the car as well, all said and done body shop said 2250.00 in damage, the reason I bought the car was that it had made it 40 years without an accident, turn it over to those clowns and they wreck it, I will have a hard time shipping anything else with the crappy experience I have had with these guys.
