Automatic high beams/annoyance

So, when I make a turn and the turn signal shuts itself off, my high beams go on. Every. Time. Sometimes on bumps too! It's super fun, but not really.

It's pretty annoying, and I look like a jackass unless I keep my middle finger on the turn signal stalk to hold it in place. My one friend was joking that I could tell people it was a safety feature, but I'm not going to do that.

Is there a neato cleaning/hack trick I can do, or should I just cough up the $130 for the turn signal stalk?

It's a 1977 911.
