Synchrometer
Ok, here she is... I have a few questions before I get started. The motor is a 2.4 liter twin plug 911S motor with freshly rebuilt Weber 40's.
1) What level should this be at during idle and a higher RPM? 2) What should that RPM be? 3) How do I adjust each carb to lower or raise the meter? 4) How much of the air cleaner do I need to remove? 5) Is there a particular order that I should do them in? 6) Any other things I should know? What is the idle air screw? I've seen the idle adjustment screw that Paul showed on the previous page but not sure where the air adjustment screw is.
Sorry for so many questions. I looked on his site but the weber drawing isn't good enough to determine which is which. Thx again, Bryan |
Typically when finished the STE meter will read below 5 for each cylinder. I assume you will need to perform the Lean Best idle mixture adjustment and then set idle air flows. Each adjustment of idle mixture screws as you get closer to correct idle mixture will increase engine speed which affects STE readings. It is an iterative process.
Be sure the drop links are disconnected when making idle adjustments; these will be be set later when synchronizing side-to-side air flow balance. When the Lean Best adjustment is completed and the idle air flows are all balanced it would probably be good to give each mixture screw another 1/2 turn open (richer) and then keep a note of that so you can go back to Lean Best if the driving issue isn't corrected. If I haven't sent the throttle cross bar blueprinting and side-to-side balancing tips then let me know and I can get that coming. |

Update, spoke to Paul at Performance Oriented today and did some adjustments. Already seeing a noticeable difference when coming up to a stop sign. almost never stalls now. Also seems to run a little leaner. There is a slight tendency to stall occasionally but this can be worked out easily based off how much I achieved tonight after only an hour.
