911 insurance..!!

Hi,
I have a question:
Last week I had an accident in my 993, nothing major but my original BBS wheels got badly damaged.
Now my insurance (progr...) is trying to repair instead of change them for new ones.
How can this happens? ..after so many years paying for insurance without any accidents what so ever..??!
Is this another case of 'corporate establishment' that is eating the US..?
Any advise/suggestions or what kind of insurance is best for an old porsche?

Thank you
JP

Actually if you take them to the right place they will be truer than original specs. I didn't know this until several years ago when I had a bent alloy on an older Z28, I was amazed at what they could do. The place was in Atlanta area.

It's up to the insurance company whether they'll replace or repair. That said, you get to pick where the work is done. Find a specialist shop that will do the work. If it's a decent amount of work, it'll probably come close to what new wheels will cost and the insurance company may cut you a check for new wheels.

Progressive has to be one of the worst when dealing with claims. The adjusters are children with no automotive experience..sucking up trying to show the boss how much money they saved the company. I dropped them after one claim and been with Hagerty since. Company is managed by car people.

Hagertys probably would of replaced them. Better than the risk of another claim if they crack and cause an accident.

I wonder if you can scare them by playing the safety card. Have an attorney draw up some papers saying that they will be liable for any future damages that result from a wheel failure, and hand over to the adjuster for their attorneys to sign. They won't sign it, but maybe it'll sway them to buy you some new ones.

I wouldn't get upset about it. It's standard policy language for insurance companies to have the choice. However, it's also standard - at least in California - for the vehicle owner to have the right to choose the repair shop. So... like others have mentioned, take the wheels to a specialty shop of your choice. If they recommend replacement, your adjuster should have no problem paying to replace them - regardless of what company you're with. Their initial evaluation is never set in stone and "repair" is usually the default. Not a big deal.

I think it is OK to get upset about these issues. There are countless situations where owners of all original undamaged 911's or other car types for that matter are damaged with no fault of their own. We can assume the insurance companies motivate adjusters to minimize pay out and likely have metrics to "guide" them. If you know your rights, have some technical knowledge, can get advice and have the time you can work with your insurance company and likely get a higher quality repair. Selecting a shop of your choice does not make these issues go away. My case in point, I hit a deer, took to shop of my choice, the ins. company, shop, and I spent the next couple of months negotiating over what the shop listed as needing repair and what the ins. company would pay for. Finally after I escalated the situation with the ins. company they agreed to pay for the items and prices listed by the shop. I was lucky that my agent backed me, but it still took considerable time and effort on my part.

In general, you will not be made whole. My case doesn't necessarily apply. You are not compensated for the loss of value going from an unmolested car to a repaired car. You are also not compensated for all your time and effort to push back on the insurance company to get results more in your favor (e.g. new wheel vs repaired wheel). In my opinion most insurance companies think of all cars as the same, just put a new (or used) fender on it, paint so it looks good on the outside for awhile and give it back. Most people don't know the difference.

well i just recently been hit in my parking lot at work, they have to try to fix it to put it in its original state before they can replace them. i have a 3 stage paint job they couldnt match it after the repair. the insurance had to put out 3300 for the first repair on the car now they are goin to repaint the entire car which is another 4400. so let them pay twice. after they fix it tell them its not riding right take it to another rim shop and let the adjuster come out and declare it to be un fixable.

i used my insurance met life to go after the other persons insurance,
the other persons insurance paid me for loss of use of my vehicle which they matched the labor hours and sent me a check for the labor hours $1200, of loss of use of vehicle.

also i am goin for loss of wages for when i had to pick up rental car during work hours and picking my car up during work hours. so dont give up.

this claim actually is up over 10k with the rental car cost also. just for knocking off my front bumper and damaging my front flare one little corner.
