85 seats in a 72?

I have some 1985 911 non-sports seats which are currently with the upholsterer, I want to fit them into my 1972 911. The Pelican seat adapters apparently won't work with 85 and later seats, anyone else done this and have some good advice on how best to go about it?

TIA

Haven't done exactly that, but you can probably make your own. Decide which width of metal strap you need - probably 3/16 or 1/4 in thickness. Copy the pattern from the '72 base & drill holes & do the same for the seats. There was a thread years ago that had diagrams & dimensions, but it was for the earlier seats. If you can do a search & find it, it might help but you'll probably end up having to make your own adaptors. Not very hard.

hi ,if you are not concerned about gaining a little height you can use mild steel angles ...i think used 1 or 1 1/2 drilled and bolted onto the sliders front and rear .bot to the seat rail and the bolt the slider to the channel, used grade 8 fasteners. this gave the same forward and backward adjustment...i guess you could notch them to get closer to the stock height if you wanted...6 bucks. 71 targa regards, ben

I've got a couple of sets. I'll look around later. one set is nothing more than aluminum plates.

here's an old pic I found.

the other set has formed seat belt mounts. easy to make the ones above, with a bit of angle stock for a belt mount.

I've got some sweet 84' black leather sport seats in my 73 and I love them. Using the adapters haycait has shown.

I bought my seat adapter plates from www.peparts.com but they appear to no longer offer these products.

One thing to consider is how to attach the lap portion of your seat belts. I had them add an "ear" to each plate to give the seat belt ends somewhere to attach.

If you want to make your own, I found this template somewhere on Pelican Parts. Thanks to whoever make it and use at your own risk:

Nigel, I'm afraid this modification won't work.
The car will simply reject these seats in a similar manner to that of the human body when incompatible elements are introduced. A longhood is a longhood sorry .

Cheers guys - looks like I'll fab these up one way or another... appreciate everyone's help.

Matt, you gave me a laugh - if the truth be told I kind of agree but just don't currently have the budget for those beautiful GTS Classic Monte Carlo's...

I've had these old 85 seats in the basement for years, and a client who is an upholsterer who owes me and wants to barter - seemed to make sense. Don't know how much a newly and professionally upholstered pair of 85 non-sports would be worth, I might sell these and save up... my originals are in excellent shape but don't provide much in the way of comfort or support. Perhaps ell both pairs and buy the Monte's?
