Observation rally
Does anyone know how to setup and run an observation 'rally?'
This is where drivers must set off at intervals of approx 1-5 minutes getting from point A to point F with several stops on the way, checking for answers to questions (at various other points B-E) asked of, on an instruction sheet. Usually you would have a driver and co-driver (observer). The event is timed so you cannot go too fast or too slow - losing points for either. Any website links or more information? Thanks. Cheers, Mark |

Several years ago, I ran a similar rally, put on by Oregon Region, PCA. Was fun. Along with observing points along the Columbia River Gorge, contestents were asked to add prices from the menu of a fast food joint, answer some Porsche trivia questions, etc. All this, along with the usual TSD thing. Anyway, here is their website. Perhaps an e-mail would get you some answers? Hope so. http://www.oregonpca.org/

Thanks for that. I'll bung them an email.
I remember doing observation rallies in the early 70's real good laugh with heaps of friends. This exactly what I'm trying to achieve with our club here. HK is only 44km wide so monthly social drives get a bit boring without some type of challenge! Mind you staying out of trouble with the cops proved to be difficult yesterday! Cheers Mark |

A long time ago, I was involved in a rally in which the checkpoints were done by telephone. It is a perfect system for a small group or club to avoid having everyone involved in manning checkpoints or scorekeeping.
Basically, you plan out the route so that each checkpoint is a public telephone. When each car gets to the destination, they call into "Rally Central" and give their car number and the phone number from which they are calling. (Obviously, you have to pre-run the route and write down all the phone numbers). Rally Central logs you in and you are deemed to be on your way instantaneously. Since one site has all the scoring information, you will basically know the winner the minute the last car comes in (especially if you have a computer). I don't know if this is a common system, but it worked really well. Rich |

You're welcome. It is a pretty neat system. I'd be interested to hear how it works for you.
