Color matching Restoration (Paint Question)
Hello,
I am restoring my 1968 912 for the second time. I want to return the car to its original factory color of kristalblau #320 as that is the code on the door plate. Here is my dilemma: I was searching online and found this website 1972 2.9 Hotrod The color of this car is called Turkis #340 and I love it. It's almost the same color as Kristalblau but it has a little bit more green in it. What should I do? The colors are so close. How much will it increase the value of the car to have the original color on it; Especially since it was a special order color? Any thoughts will help. But I'm sure the best plan is to paint this one original and to save Turkis for another project. Thanks! |

There is a lengthy thread over on the Early S forum that may help you consider the complexities of color change and value. Check it out here:

Hard to place a value on original color. I think it would be a scale from zero to 10% based on the value of the car otherwise. Say a $10K car the premium might be negligible, while on a $100K the premium would be $10K.

Thanks for the info. I'll check the link too. I was on this forum a long time ago and forgot my username somehow. I'm still learning how to navigate the forum. |
