Oil Line Replacement

Hello Everyone.

I replaced an oil line and thought I'd write in about it.
This was the line that goes from the thermostat to the crossover tube on a 1984 stock 3.2.

Initially I was trying to loosen the oil line nut but I could not get a wrench on there. I referred to the PP search engine and discovered that even if I could get a wrench on there to loosen the nut, the threads of the thermostat sometimes come off with the nut because of the dissimilar metals. The recommandation was to cut and split the nut.

I tried my cutting wheel but I couldn't get a good angle on it, so I had to use one of my hack saws.

When cutting into the nut always keep in mind the thickness of the nut so you don't cut into the threads of the thermostat (like I did). As careful as I was I still cut into them a little bit but luckily not all the way through.

After cutting the nut I tried to split the nut with a chisel but it wasn't happening for me. Fortunately for me, as I was trying to split the nut I hit it at such an angle that I noticed that the nut actually turned on the threads, leaving the threads intact. So I was able to spin off the nut once the pressure on the threads, from the nut, was relieved.

Here are some photos.

The reason for the line replacement. A leaky oily mess.

Remember don't cut more than you need to.

This was a slow process. Take your time, be patient, you'll get there.

Using silicone lubricant seemed to help in the cutting process.

Sorry no pictures of the thermostat threads, I didn't remember to take photos until the job was done.
