yet another timing question
I just installed a newly professionally rebuilt distributor on my 1971 911t. I have it timed to the point that it runs fairly smoothly at lower rpms and at 4000 and above but staggers and/or pulses a bit between 3000 and 4000. I set the timing at 3200 (20 degrees) because I can't bring myself to running it up to 6200. I've noticed that as it is now set, at idle it is about 5 degrees advance from where it's supposed to be but if I set it at 2-4 degrees BTDC it runs like crap.
Should I most likely advance it a bit or retard it a bit? Any other ideas. Thanks for your help. |

I use to set my 69 at 4deg ATDC and that would translate to 30deg BTDC at 6000 RPM. But distributors wear differently so run that baby up to 6000RPM and check that timing. You won't hurt a thing. Don't tell me that you have never had that car at 6000 RPM when driving. Shoot ,my 69 doesn't get on the cam until 4500 RPM. Drive it like you stole it.

which distributor do you have?

distributor question
Thanks for responses. I'm going to start over again and properly time it at 35 degrees at 6200.
I have a 71 911t and I've been told the initial timing, just enough to warm up the engine, is 5 degrees BTDC at 950 rpm |
