1972 Reproduction Fuel Tank and Fitting Questions
It's time to replace my original fuel tank. It was cleaned and sealed in the 90's, but the coating has given up. I'm using Webers and a Carter fuel pump. I currently use the inlet screen as the fuel source and the banjo as the return. I was able to get all three fittings (2 fittings and one plug) out of the tank.
Questions: What is the thread size of the fittings? Perhaps I can put in a standard barbed fitting. With the new galvanized tanks, are people coating the outsides, or just painting them? What sticks to galvanized metal? I guess primer for galvanized metal?... What's the correct color for the tank, top and bottom? From Left to Right, please label the fitting locations. ![]() Pic of the inside of the tank. ![]()

I called Tasker Metal, who makes the tanks. The outside fittings are M22 and the middle one is M14.

Old post, but thanks for posting it. I measured the plug thread and its M22x1.5
How did you end up finishing your tank? I was thinking of having mine Rhino coated...not so worried about authenticity as durability. Where you able to find fittings? |
