Free Bump...

Not much from the Red Book except that I just notice that their were 2 "models" and one was from Karmann...

The "0503" would fit within the Karmann last 4 digit of the Chassis Serial # range; 119220001-119221014.

Until I was saw the above, the only thing I was going to post was that the 69 model was the first 911 major overhaul and it cost $6,995 back then.

Kuntsharzlack means, essentially, "synthetic paint" and the numbers underneath are paint codes.

Edit: A little investigation indicates it is a special factory silver color (silver metallic) which uses two code numbers, as shown on the tag. Apparently, this dual coding for this color is only be for model year 1969.

Taken from the 912 Register, U.K.,..."From sometime in 1966 calendar year the paint code included a prefix and suffix such as 97-6206-L; allowing the prefix and suffix would be most valuable. 67 81 9101 H & 77 94 0503 and 76 81 9101 H & 77 94 0503 are two row codes for silver in 1969;"

Similar information found on the early 911S site, going back to 2008.

The fellows at the Early 911S Registry BBS (Early 911S Registry) may be able to provide some illumination on this.

I'm here also, and I wrote those notes. It would be interesting to know the VIN.

Not likely since the badge does not say Karmann.

I think that the tag in question comes from the car Rick posted here:
911 E Sunroof Coupe Prison Find
I too am curious to know more about this dual stamped tag as I have not seen anything like it.

That particular paint code was definitely strange, but this was what was used in 1969 for silver on the 911 & 912. It may be that the first line is the silver, and the second line is a clearcoat.

Just for comparison -- my car is a 69E that was originally a Silver Metallic (paint code 6851), so they must have had a couple of different kinds of silver that year. My car is also a Karmann coupe. Just as an FYI, for Karmann cars the door tag will clearly say Karmann on it -- at least mine does.

I don't see any evidence of Karmann.
DJ may be correct in calling the second number a clear coat tho it seems funny
that they would actually call out a clear coat since most or all cars would have received one back in the day.

Oh no. Clear coat was a new innovation back then. Not sure when it started. Silver was an available color for many years, however I understand that it had a very short service life. I believe that a lot of the silver cars needed a repaint during the warranty period. Factory applied silver paint from that era is probably nonexistant. The evolution of the paint code was fairly rapid for silver.
