I smacked a Vette this morning
I'm tooling into work this morning in my VW camper and come up on a nice looking black Vette and he's driving slow and then I notice his license bracket, "Porsche-Breakfast of Champions". I damn near puked up my Jack in the Box ultimate breakfast sandwich and decided then and there (in a kind of Kurt B moment) he was going down. So I patiently waited till the traffic slowed and pulled over to the right lane and then it opened up in front and I shot through, relatively speaking, and then pulled back into the middle lane well ahead of this poseur making him breathe a few of my unburned hyrdrocarbons. Very satisfying as I shouted into the rear view mirror, "where were you and your stinking Vette for the last 50 years of hill climbs, rallys, endurance races etc...I don't think he heard me

You must have the NOZ pipe hooked up wrong on the camper. It is supposed to go to the intake manifold not the fresh air vent to the cabin.

I had a Zr-1 vette behind me yesterday but I didn't mess with him since I've seen his car run low 11's at the track. Not worth the humiliation I would get.

You can never be humiliated in a VW vamper..its just not possible. And whats a camper if it doesn't have a little smoke coming out of the drivers seat

you should have blasted him with your windshield wiper fluid. additionally i find it funny that a vette guy (im related to a vette guy, the old man pilots a z06) would think so highly of our beloved P-cars that he needs to post it. maybe he feels inadequate in other areas of his manhood or an p-thing envy?

Um, would "P-thing envy" be Porsche envy or p**** envy?

A little closer to home (car-wise), I'm taking my daughter home from school in the "soccer mom" mini-van (which is my primary vehicle, BTW) when I chance upon a new GT2 Porsche beside and just a little ahead of us. I instantly perk up as this is something special; it doesn't sound like a sewing machine. In fact, it sounds quite raucous (nice), even at idle.
So I take off with follow this fellow, who probably feels he's on top of the world (*****in') cruising in his $180K machine, to see how this baby sounds as it accelerates from our just-turned green. It goes something like this: ahhhhhhhhhh, eh (shift @ 2000 rpm), ahhhhhhhh, eh, (shift @2000 rpm), etc. ..... automatic. I didn't realize they allow Tiptronics in the higher end cars. He must have been in the full automatic, Montovani, easy-listening classic mode. Quite disappointing. I'm driving home shaking my head with my daughter asking me what I'm doing. I mutter something as the Chrysler 4-speed (2nd of several, I understand) upshifts at 2500..... Sherwood Lee http://members.rennlist.org/911pcars www.seinesystems.com |

Sherwood,
I don't want to bust your bubble but I'm sure I've read somwhere a comparison report (Pano?) btwn manual and tiptronic and under certain conditions the tiptronic outperformed the manual. Maybe the driver.... maybe not. Does this mean I would buy a tip? I don't know having never driven one but it certainly would be worth checking out if your dropping 180K to find out which one suited.

When I see vettes, I usually roll down my window and blow a fart in their passenger window if it's open.
That's what vettes are good for. Flatulence recepticles.

well in a straight line, Vettes have a lot of rubber and a lot of torque going for them. But if you want to do crazy things like turn and stop, that's where we enter the picture. Plus, vettes are fugly. big asses and all. I know that some of you are fond of your fat-bottomed girls, but your girls have curves--vettes just have big asses.

"I don't want to bust your bubble but I'm sure ...."
Dan, I wasn't feeling superior (against a GT2?), just disappointed he was shifting like my mini-van. I guess I have this bias against automatics in a sports/GT car, no matter how equivalent they may be under certain conditions. "When I see vettes, I usually roll down my window and blow a ....." GT2s don't come with automatics. They are only available in one configuration and that is 456bhp, 6sp manual with rear wheel drive and no traction control. Poseurs need not apply for this baby.

930fan,
That explains it. The guy must have been starting off in 2nd gear, then quick-shifting into 3rd to save fuel; perhaps saving the boost for a more appropriate mini-van. |

True, that GT2 was not a Tip. However, I can also see that it was probably a brand new car and he was probably still in break-in mode. You have to keep those pretty docile for a couple of thousand miles during the break-in period.
