1974 Carrera #100

After waiting 25 years, I finally bought my first Porsche: a 1974 US Carrera. The car was imported to Australia two years ago and I purchased it in January 2010. My aim is to completely rebuild the car to its former glory.

The VIN is 9114400100. If anyone knows this car from its days in America, I would love to find out more about its previous history, especially the bullet hole through the glove box and firewall!!

The car has been stripped back to bare metal and is at the paint shop. All the panel work has been file finished; we have used no filler on the car. I am going to repaint the car using the original glasurit paint in the original Sahara Beige (516).

I welcome any comments or advice that you have to offer.

Welcome aboard !!

looks nice are you going to put the duck back on it or leave the euro/ 75 carrera tail on it? being a low number 74 car i think it should have the duck being a us carrera.

keep us posted on the progress.

cheers ed

Thanks Ed. Definitely putting a duck tail on it. Am planning on putting the car back to its original state, maybe with some slight engine modifications.

Cheers,

Andy

Hi there.

I was looking at that car when it was for sale.
It looked to be in good condition, however the seller wouldn't return calls.

How was the body, mechanicals. etc when you got it?

Hi Chris
I was looking for about a year and chose this one because the body was so clean, just rust under the battery. The rest of the car was all original apart from the front seats and the 75 tail. The engine was good, usual oil leaks etc. It’s had some work done hydraulic tensioners, turbo valve covers and pop off valve.
The seller was very hard to contact, he imports cars and I think he screens who gets to see them!! I all but gave up. He turned out to be a top guy and I would deal with him again.
Do you still own the 74 Carrera??

The car came with bullet hole through the glove box, fire wall. The heater control box and bonnet have been replaced!! Hoping to discover the story...... it’s about a 10mm hole. Scary stuff.

Apparently some one tried to lighten the car at one time.

I agree: "That's just too cool to leave out." Use some rust reducer (converter) on the rust; prime & paint; cover with some sort of plug to protect from the sharp edges.

You may even get a premium price for it someday when you sell.

Do a title search to see if you can find who was the PO then; might be a police report on it.

Nice car! And ditto on leaving the bullet hole, very cool .

When I was a kid I worked for my neighbor who was the president of the Jaguar Club in San Diego. He had Mark 9 show car that he found a bullet lodged in the A pillar when we was restoring it. He did some research and found out that at some point the car was owned by a govt somewhere (can't remember where) and the head of state was being driven in it and there was an assassination attempt, and apparently they just leaded over the bullet hole and never removed the bullet.
