SC power window problem...
 

My previously stellar driver side power window will not work at all. ( this is a sudden development) The sluggish passenger side window works from both switches.

I checked the fuses in the panel (OK) and since one relay controls both windows, that should be OK.(I think) Any ideas?

Since I recently had my door panels off, I immediately think of going back in there to see if the motor is getting voltage when the switch is pressed. One of those "when your only tool is a hammer, all the problems look like nails" syndrome things.

Moses, what's happening when you use the switch? Silence? Do you hear the motor running but the window doesn't budge? Does it try to go up but slips or grinds? Is it raining where you are? Tough to diagnose without some symptoms. Could be off track, a loose wire, or maybe the motor just died.

Total silence. Window worked like a champ yesterday. I reall thought it would be a fuse. I'm stumped.

The switches are weak points in the electric window system. I would bet that the switch is bad. You may want to try switching the passanger window switch with the drivers. If the drivers window goes up and down you know its a bad switch. About $19. You can do this without taking off the door panel. Everything else will require removal of the door panel.

A few weeks ago I installed RS door panels. I took the time to clean and apply white lithium grease to all the moving parts of the windows, rails, gears, etc. THe windows move much faster and smother than before. Over the years alot of gunk accumilates, which slows down the windows.

You can pull the switches out of the door. Just pry and pull. I had the same problem exactly, and it was the switches. If the driver's side passenger goes out, it affects the passenger since the current goes from driver to passenger side.
Anyway, you can pull the switches and dismantle them if you want. Mine were brittle and broke in the process, but I could see where the connection was failing Best if you just get new ones. I did, and I'm glad. BUT NOTE THE WIRING :) Or keep your bentley handy so you can get them all back together right. Otherwise, you'll blow a few fuses trying to get them back wired.

I just had the door panels off last week replacing door handles and fixing the door lock mechanism. Wish I were psychic, I'd have left them off till the window failed.
