I recently completed the installation of the turbo tie rods on my '84 coupe and didn't have too much trouble due to the turbo tie rod installation wrench - part no. PEL-SR2201 from our host.

Looks like we're about 50 miles apart - you're welcome to borrow mine if you'd like.

Lots of heat and the proper wrench will make your life a lot easier as i
spent most of last Summer waiting for my fingernail to fall off my right index finger ... lol

Pinched it real good

Cheers !

This maybe a stupid comment, but, make sure that you loosen the nuts that set up against the tie rod ends. First time I took mine off - they would not move! Looked closer and thought - crap you idiot, there is a nut locking against the tie rod ends. Loosened the nut and they came off by hand.

Some times the most obvious is overlooked.

Good luck

+1 on this comment. The bellow support or the gold colored round nut may need to be loosened. Once loosened a little and the tie rod should be easier to rotate and screw off.

Use a hammer and a chisel to move the old tie rod nut at steering rack. There is like a slot that you can wedge the chisel. Tap it counterer-clockwise to get it free. Let us know your progress..........worked for me.

I did try the chisel and hammer, maybe I am just getting old and weak! Done for today, will try again tomorrow. Like I said, worst case, drop the rack and use the BIG wrenh! Hey, I can lube tthe rack while I am at it.

thanks for all the great ideas, this one frozen tie rod!

I too ran into the same thing when I did mine. I ultimately ended using the biggest crescent wrench I could find and cinching up on the tie rod as close to the steering rack as I could get it. I did not remove the sway bar. The rest was just fighting it to come loose. It eventually did come loose but it was a tough fight. The turbo tie rod tool really is only good for installation unless you already have the turbo rods and are removing them.

Well OK, I took an air chisel to the brass rings and zapped then loose, then the tie rods came out easily. New ones in, eyball alignment and off I go..
i will get a pro alignment this week. I do feel the difference

one task down!
