Early Sun Visor won't stay up

I've been having problems with my, new to me, 71 Targa sun visors staying up. The PO had a match book wedged up there to keep them up. I did some searching here and found that the later cars have an adjustment screw. None on mine. My visors are in pretty good shape with some small splits at either end.

So I went out and started messing around with them. The right one seemed to stay up a little better than the left. I noticed it was more towards the center of the car on the rods it rides on. I pushed the left one around a little and it took a little force, but it slid towards the middle and now it stays up! I adjusted the right one to the center so they are almost touching and both seem pretty solid now. I haven't driven it this way yet, but they seem pretty secure in the up position. Hopefully it solved the problem.

Tom

Targas like cabs have pins on each end with plastic retainers that screw into the metal surround of the windscreen. The plastic has a slotted cup inside that the sqaured off end of the pin slips into. It's kikely that the pins have receeded into the foam part of the visor. Or are chewed up and need to be replaced.

Take them off, check out the condition of the plastic retainers inside. If they are not all chewed up, reseat them with a good wack, insert the pins after cleaning them...I use a little lube....sparingly....tighten down the reatining screws a bit, reseat the platic on the overhead, tighten screws.....

THEN, tighten the retaining screws in the visor to vary the tension of the visor movement. The pins should NOT spin in the plastic but inside the visor.

The plastic ends pieces are available new but are pricey.
