993 wiper update - questions
I am fitting a 993 wiper update to my 89. I have already fitted the 993 cowl.
Do I have to cut the drivers side windshield defrost duct out to fit the 993 wiper motor mechanism? How do you secure the mechanism ? ThanksSmileWavy |
Out of curiosity, what is the 993 wiper update exactly and what advantage does it have ?
Cheers ! Phil |
They are mounted close together in the centre of the cowl. The 911 and 964 wiper pivots are located further apart, near the outside edges of the cowl vent.
Apparently this allows for a longer wiper blade and better glass coverage on it's sweep. I've never been in a 993 when the wipers were in use so cannot vouch for any better cleaning ability. |
Because a picture is apparently worth a thousand words...

Thanks for the reply's and pictures.
Yes, the 993 wipers are mounted in the centre. My car has a 993 factory steel turbo body so thats why I did the 993 wiper set up. If anybody know, would really appreciate any tips. Thanks again |
I thought this mod was quite popular :confused:

I saw somebody do it once on Impactbumpers.com, but I can't find the thread. If I remember correctly, he modified the linkage system to work with the 911 parts, but used the 993 cowl. Sorry I can't be more assistance. If you look around impactbumpers, you might be able to find the discussion.

Thanks for the reply. Thats interesting that they modified the original wiper linkage.
I already purchased the 993 mechanism so I will try to use that. I guess it has not been done as much as I though. |
Well, whatever you do, be sure to take lots of pics and post them up here. You know, to help get that number up closer to where you thought it might be... :D
