915 pinion front shaft bearing loose

Hello all. I have recently bought a 76 911 w no engine project car. I was able to find a 83 sc engine and lift it in and drive it in 2nd gear about 10 feet. I was unable to get it into 1st.
Upon stripping down the 915/44 tranny I noticed the front pinion roller bearing (by 5th gear end) was free to wander up and down the shaft. I also noticed there was some scoring on the shaft itself. Shaft seems smooth, just a bit discolored.
This transmission has been worked on before as it has the asymmetrical 1st gear. Seems it was u able to get into 1st as slider teeth was bent out of shape, probably from the free play on the shaft.

My question is can I replace the front pinion bearing or does the pinon shaft need some machining?
