Soft miss that goes aways when the ac is on

My 1986 carrera coupe started to miss a little on a trip from NC to Ohio. I had just bought gas at a BP station but the pump was running very slowly (maybe 2 gal in 5 min) so i shut the pump off and when to another station. the miss started in about 50 miles. it was barely there and the car was making good power. I stopped and could hear a little miss at idle. I checked all the wires and let the car cool for maybe 15 minutes. the miss was gone but came back in about 5 miles.
I'd had a similar problem maybe ten years ago that turned out too be a head temp sensor. but that would stop the car. this didn't. the temp gauge was normal. it got hot and turned on the ac and the miss went away! i checked this several times on the way to Ohio. and it definitely goes away with the ac on. I'm going to run the gas out to almost empty and fill with shell or bp.

anybody seen this before? any ideas? of course it's memorial day and nobody's open.
thanks

Iverman

Battery is being over-charged..??

A/C compressor clutch operation puts a serious load level on the system, RIGHT at the point of alternator voltage/spike generation.

In my case, '88 Carrera, turning on all the lights would abate the problem.
