Straightening the body on Targa
Hey again,
After a number of attempts to adjust my doors on my '84 targa in order to seal the rear part of the windows, it has become clear that I have a minor issue (trying to be optimistic of course) with a minor bowing of the body at the doors due to engine weight being rearward of the rear axle with no structural reinforcement above the doors. Typical challenge with this design of vehicle I am told and have read on numerous posts here. As I wish to retain the stock look of the car as designed, with no additional bars above my head, I am looking at having the car straightened at my local Porsche body shop. The shop foreman, said the car is structurally sound with no rusting, so is well within the realm of the possible to straighten. He recommended however that I try to find a reinforcement frame (not roll bars) which he had seen from a Germany company (he couldn't recall the name however) which was TUV approved to ensure or at least reduce the chance of it happening again once I get it straightened. Has anyone had experience with straightening the car - I think it's worth it personally (I'm funny that way...), and thoughts on how long it would last without any sort of reinforcement due to previous metal fatigue etc. Thanks.
