Hi again everyone. In case you were wondering, this is just the start of my multifaceted marketing machine. My goal is to have you uttering "101 Projects" in your sleep at night (I'm still working on the subliminal virus that will spread to your brain from this BBS. From the looks of some of you who are addicted to this place, I might not be far off!)
Anyways, the proofs came back from the printer yesterday, and they look great! I sincerely hope that everyone will like the book. Of course, there will be a few picky people who will complain that I didn't dedicate 59 pages to performing the Turbo Look conversion (I put in a two-page overview of what you need to do), but I think that the majority of people will be very happy. There are some projects that are similar to ones on our site, and there are a bunch of entirely new ones too. Each project begins with a small table that shows you: - Time Required - Tools Required - Talent Required - Applicable Years - Cost of the Project - The parts needed for the project - Tips for use during the project - Performance Gains - Complementary Modifications Here is a scanned copy of the explanation of this legend: http://www.pelicanparts.com/temp/info_boxes.jpg and here it is in action on the shock replacement project: http://www.pelicanparts.com/temp/shocks.jpg Here are some more other teasers: Upgrading to the 911 Turbo Look: http://www.pelicanparts.com/temp/Turbo_Look.jpg Installing a new Dash Pad: http://www.pelicanparts.com/temp/dash_Pad.jpg Carburetor Rebuild: http://www.pelicanparts.com/temp/carb_rebuild.jpg Repairing First Gear on the 901: http://www.pelicanparts.com/temp/first_gear.jpg Setting the Cam Timing: http://www.pelicanparts.com/temp/cam_timing.jpg Ok, well that's it. We're not taking advance orders yet for this because it's a bit too much paperwork for us. However, we will let everyone here know when the book is ready to ship (should be Sept 15th, at the latest). All copies purchased through Pelican will be personally autographed. So take a look, and spread the word - it's coming soon. "101 Projects for your Porsche 911" - because most people don't have internet access to www.pelicanparts.com in the bathroom. Cheers! -Wayne |

Did you get my email about the rsr site? -d ------------------ Dave 1972 911T (E motor) RSR replica project http://members.nbci.com/dtwinters/garage/ |

Yeah, Wayne, you should set up a link where we can enter our information to pre-order the book. Give us a free autograph and a buck or two discount, and you'll get us all at once. It'll spike those first-week sales right into NYT Bestsellers List territory.

I am very impressed with how it's set up with the estimated tab, hours, skill level, tools needed and the minute detail. The things Joe Haynes expert sees as obvious or forgets to put in are usually the damned things I need to know.
Personally, I think the estimated time, all the tools etc, is too much Work for the them to do. Instead of just grabbing what they know they need, they'd have to sit down and document it, and they don't. Meanwhile it takes me 1/2 hr of digging, crawling under and trying before I figure out what the hell I need. The estimated time is also nice, although I'm sure I'll have to double that figure. When I first heard about your book, I was a little ho-hum, but after seeing this, I'm looking forward to it. And folks, I ain't a Pelican Parts shill either, but I am definitely interested in what I've seen. I'm sure the WHOLE board will have comments on that book though, and Wayne, no matter how scrupulous he was, will have to sift through some criticisms! ------------------ Kurt B 1984 Carrera Cabriolet 911 Page carrera_cabriolet@yahoo.com |

The way this crowd is, I'm gearing up for the complaints. Honestly, I wrote the book knowing that it would get a harsh going-over, so I think it will do ok with everyone.
Five technical people have reviewed the book for errors, and additions, so the tech content should be top-notch. In addition, I've edited five times for errors so it should be 99.9% error free. Any typos, I'll post on 101projects.com. The back of the cover cost of the book is going to be $29.95, which is a good deal considerting what it covers. I don't know what my cost is going to be on it, so I don't have our Pelican Parts price just yet. Count on it being real close to the rear cover price though - I'm not terribly keen on discounting it. The biggest complaints on the book will be: - The projects are not in-depth enough. Obviously 101 projects in 243 pages means that I have about 1-3 pages per project. While this can cover a lot, some projects are merely overviews (like the Turbo-look stuff, and the engine rebuild project). Keep in mind that there are very few of these 'overviews' in the book though. - You didn't cover this, or you didn't cover that! Depending upon sales of this book, there is the opportunity for another book, "101 More Projects for your Porsche 911". It's full color-glossy thick pages (like the old Automotion catalogs) and it has a real heavy, good quality feel to it. I don't think that anyone will say they didn't get their money's worth with this one! I will make an advance ordering page sometime during the next month. Keep watching for details! -Wayne |

If you need a translator I could translate it to finnish
Try to offer the book for publishers here in Finland because we don't have any 911 books in finnish.EDIT: OK ok, we do have only 5000000 people living in this country :l [This message has been edited by Zendalar (edited 08-02-2001).] |

I doubt that there are too many 911s in Finland. Besides, doesn't everyone in Europe speak English anyways?
