Exclamation Someone explain the price of this hose to me

After the big breather hose on the back of the crankcase cracked I decided to order the rest as a "while you are in there" item. The big 25mm hoses are in the $30 range.

... And then I get to this one:

930.107.397.01 Described in PET as "line ventilation crankcase", in other words the small diameter breather line.
Pelican Parts - Product Information: 930-107-397-01-OEM

$287.75!!!

What is the deal with this hose. Does it have a platinum plated gold liner or hand stitched out of baby seal eyebrows? I just can't wrap my head around this... WTF!!!?

Looks like I should be gearing up for this one too.

The little 3.2 Carrera fuel hose shown below is $150 plus at the dealers...............

or $65 from me.

So how do you form a permanent bend in a reinforced rubber line like that?

Always wondered how you could give the hose a permanent set after it was originally made.

that's a stainless steel line with a short crimped on rubber end. you really don't need this. cut the crimp collar off the original and use a short section of regular fabric covered stock 911 breather hose and two clamps.

Have you checked the fuel line from the filter to the fuel rails..the rubber hose is the problem there.

Sorrry guys, I was having fun.

The oil pipe has a short length of breather hose crimped to it. The costly part is the SS pipe.

As JW says, cut the old hose crimp off & use a new length of hose & two new clamps. It will work fine.

Re: the formed fuel hose, I send them out to be done for me. Once back, I crimp the fitting to the hose.

The explanation is simple: Cash flow.

I recently took the door cards out of my 964 to work on the interiors of the doors. Figured I'd replace some of the window seals while I was at it. Same old story- "while you're in there...."

The outer, the one seen on the outside of the door where the window drops in, was.... $8! "Sweet," I thought, "this ain't so bad!". The inner scraper, metal-backed felt, the metal of which had rusted to nearly nothing loooong ago? Err.... $98?! "FTS," says I to myself, "I'll run the superlightweight sport delete!"

It's definitely been years since those served any function at all on my car, and the insides of the doors were in great shape.

The take home message is this: Porsche definitely knows how their bread is buttered. Engine tins, anyone?

Wayne,

I think you're looking at the wrong part? If you're looking for a breather hose for your '87, part #25 is not one of them. Like JW said, that's a stainless braid hose that is for 930 engines (930.66/68)

The hoses are on this page

Porsche 911 & Carrera Oil Circulation - Page 6

I recently bought the one highlighted in green to route it wherever I want to, instead of using the pre-formed hose that goes around the rear of the air filter box.

Yeah I missed the 930.66/68 in PET. They show it right below the retaining bracket (#30) so assumed that it was the 3rd hose that goes through there. Wonder if 930.207.236.00 is the hose I'm looking at...

Either way if there is ever a big demand for new stainless breather lines at $280 a pop I'm going to start a new business!
