Normal oil temp??? Help?

Hi guys,
I am new to 911s and have a question regarding oil temp. My car is a 1988 Carrera with up-graded AC. I live in the Daytona Beach area so its beginning to get hot.
The oil gage does not have a white and red range as mentioned in the owner's manual, but actual a temp scale. I have owned the car since last December and I noticed that the oil temp seems to hang around the 190 range. This past weekend with fairly hot weather and just driving around town for about 45 minutes, I notice the needle getting up to 210 or just a bit above that. As soon as I pickup a bit of speed (say up to about 45 or 50mph) it cools down to 190 fairly quickly. Is this normal? What are the normal and dangerously hot operating temps??? Any and all comments are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I see the same thing on my 88. Sounds pretty normal to me.

As Bruce Anderson said: "240° F is hot, 250° F is too damn hot"

210 is normal.

You see numbers because a previous owner modified the temp gauge, a popular upgrade. Your temps seem to be very much like what I see with my 87 Carrera.

just be sure that the temp sensor is the right one for the guage (depends on how the guage was modified). but 210ish peak is not bad at all

Thanks for all the info. I feel a bit better now, but will keep a close eye on the temp gage just in case.
