Help on A/C brackets
 

Does anyone have the diagram of the heavy metal that the A/C compressor bolt on? I am having all kinds of problems figuring out how the brackets bolt to the engine?

I want to get together with everyone last month. I have been so busy attempting to get my engine back inside the car. I have only got the AC problem and Iam ready to put the engine back in. I am not wondering if I got the rite parts back from Powder Coating. If I got a different year bracket from another Porsche. I have attached the pictures if someone can only get me the picture of the parts breakdown out of the Porsche parts.

Those are two of the five bracket pieces, at least for some years. Do you have a York compressor? The one on the right screws to the passenger side cam tower. The one on the left is the main bracket; it attaches to the one on the right, to a strut coming up from and bolted to the console (the welded housing around the crank pulley) and to a small strut that attaches to the top stud of the passenger side chain case to engine case joint. These two struts (3rd and 4th pieces) are not in your posted image nor is the translating or sliding plate (5th piece) that the compressor attaches to; the translation plate sits on top of the main bracket and allows the compressor to slide to obtain the correct v-belt tension. Note, that it takes a special $12 Porsche nut to mount the small strut correctly to the passenger side chain case stud. Cheers, Jim

The large one on the left looks like: 911 126 101 01, A/C Bracket

The smaller one on the right looks like: 911 126 113 00, A/C Angle

Be advised that there is at least one piece missing (I have a 85 model and not that familiar with the SC mount). The one that the compressor sits on is flat with one edge on it and bolts directly to the bottom of the compressor.

Wish I could figure out how to get a certain Porsche parts program to give me a .jpeg of a parts page without printing it and I would attach it here for you to see. I could print this out and give it to you or fax it so you could see whats missing.

I would guess that these are the right parts for your compressor. Also, how happy are you with the quality of the powder coating and how was the price? Where are they located?

looking at the picture if you take the one on the left and turn it 90 degrees clockwise that is how it will set on the bracket which is mounted to the engine.

The bracket on the right (where the three small holes are) bolt to the top engine shroud on the right side of the engine taper side going towards the front of the car.

There should be another bracket which the left bracket sets on. The bracket you show is for the compressor and the bolt sticking out goes through a turned up eye let from the bottom bracket. That bolt is used to adjust the tension on the belt after the compressor is installed.

Yes I do have a York Compressor. I am going to go out and see if I can put the puzzle together. I am not showing the one piece that I have already bolted to the engine coming up from next to the belt pulley. There is still one piece bolted to the compressor. the two I am showing in the picture I only need to know where the one on the right fits. I will let you know

In a Windows System, Ctrl+PrintScrn.. then Paste into your favorite image editing program (IrfanView in my case) resize to below 100K (normally 800x600 should do it) and attach..

I really should get a 'real' screen capture program.. but Ctrl+PrintScrn has never failed me yet.. and does not use any memory...

Part 8 in the above diagram is the small strut; it may still be attached to the upper stud of the passenger side chain case to engine case joint. Part 10 is the special $12 Porsche nut that attaches it. Jim

Well as mixed up as I am I really need to know where Item 18 goes. I have attached a picture to show where I have gotten and now I need to know how and where item 18 fits in the picture.

Item 18 goes onto the top of the passenger side cam tower, on top of the shroud. It mounts just outboard of the fuel injectors. Take out the rear two screws holding the shroud and get longer ones with washer's to reinstall bracket (item 18). These screws should be at least grade 8.8 and I would recommend you install them with blue loctite. In the picture you posted I note the small strut already in position. Cheer's Jim

I have figured it out and I want to thank all of you for helping me out.....the first 100 of these are always the hardest. Between the diagram and Jim Sim's directions I have solved the puzzle. I have to tell you that one of the shroud bolts are broken off and I will have to work on that. The PO must have broke the bolt off and the item 18 was located not where it was design when I took it off. I don't remember taken it off at the proper location. Anyway it will get put back in the proper fashion.

I have a hard believing item 18 could be installed in the wrong place and still function. By rear two screws I mean rear as in towards the rear of the car. I note that the diagram shows studs, washers and nuts being used instead of screws and washers to mount item 18; this is change from earlier years when screws were used. Studs (again grade 8.8 or better- you can make a stud from a screw) are a better way to make the joint. Cheers, Jim

I have just completed the AC installation. I have to say without the guys on this BB I would still be looking like the Deer in the headlights. I will be in Fontana this week end.
