Anyone relocate their AC controls?

I'm looking to get rid of my center console once I do my backdate project but I want to keep the AC cause it's durn hot here in Texas!!

I was thinking of reconfiguring the switches on the dash, deleting the cigarette lighter and possibly putting another hole there to put the switches from the console. Has anyone done this? Any other solutions?

Yep. I am in the process of doing the same thing. Got the idea from fellow Pelican Fred Cook (same guy that makes the replacement fuse panels).

Basically take out the ash tray and relocate the A/C controls there. You just need to bend a piece of aluminum or stainless steel that is cut to fit the size of the opening and add a couple of holes.

I can post a pic later tonight when I get home. I haven't finished installing it because I'm cleaning up the wiring and installing the new stereo head unit.

How did you handle the capillary tube? Does it have enough length when you do it like that?

Once you remove the switches from the console, it is just long enough to relocate them to the ashtray opening.

Thanks for the info. I was also thinking about removing the console, but was worried about the capillary tube and breaking it. That would REALLY suck.

That looks prety good. I like the ashtray idea, too. I'll never use it, so it might make a good place for those controls.

A nice aluminum piece, wrinkle-black finish, AC controls. Also with a place to mount my center vent mod from Griff.

I'm guessing that if you PM'd Fred, he'd be happy to talk to you. I don't know if he's a regular reader here or not. You can find him by searching for "fuse panel" in the parts FS forum.
