New to Charlotte area - Porsche events? Meets? Swaps? Racing?

Hey everyone!

Well... I moved out of California and allllll the way to the other side of the country. I landed in North Carolina. I'm in the Charlotte, Concord area. I'm specifically interested in early 911's, but I would be interested in about anything Porsche related.

Any vintage racing, shows, swaps, open houses, etc. around that would be good to check out? Just doing some general Google searches for the area, I'm not seeing a whole lot. So hopefully you guys can recommend some stuff to check out and point me in the right direction.

Thanks everyone!

S

Scooter, welcome to Charlotte. Check out the Coffee and Cars site for Charlotte. It is usually the first Sat of the month, now at the Carolina Music Factory complex off Graham St downtown. In the parking lot behind Mattie's Diner. Quite a few Porsche guys show up.

Join the Carolina's PCA. We do autocrosses and DE's. CMP is the local track about an hour and a half away. We also go to VIR which is one of the best road courses in the country.

Welcome to the Charlotte area. It is a great part of the country. Coffee and Cars is your best bet for now. Looks forward to the car show at Lowes Motor Speedway in the Fall though.

Welcome to charlotte.. too bad, sold a long hood 2 yrs ago..

cashman: is the BMW club active with the PCA for DE's? or are they separate? I really need to get to a DE.. been years and never is a 911. I noticed not much coming up with the PCA.

I don't think the BMW club is officially active with the local PCA but a few BMWs do attend the DEs. It is 90+% Porsche but usually a few BMWs, Corvettes, Miattas attend. There was a lotus as well at last event.
There are the following DEs remaining. The new Atlanta motorpark, CMP, and VIR.

Welcome!

Lots to do with us around the south east. Mountain drives, track events, autox. Our PCA events are spread across a few different regions sometimes, not just the Carolina's region local to charlotte. VIR, CMP, Road Atlanta, Roebling, and the new park in Atlanta are all very popular. Also NASA and the SCCA have driving events with their races.

June 2 is coming up quick, should be a good crowd for cars and coffee.

Thanks everyone! I appreciate the input.

Been in moving mode the past few weeks. Finally getting settled in after a ton of packing up and moving all our stuff across the country.

Looking forward to checking things out.

And just on a side note, I hardly see ANY older 911's on the road around here. Seems like once a week I see one, on average. And I have a long commute to work. Kind of surprised.

The older 911s do seem to be rare here. There are lots of the newer ones it seems and plenty of Cayennes (Yuppies). Keep an eye out for my Pippa. I driver her every chance I get, but I'm West in Huntersville. Enjoy your new home!

Every second Sunday...Cars and Cappuccino...a European sports car meet up in the Southpark area of Charlotte. Photos form yesterday below. Probably a dozen older 911's were there.

Welcome!

I'm still living between New Yuck and here in Mooresville. Someday I'll sell the N.Y. house and be here permanently and add a 79 SC to the area. My schedule always seems to have me in the wrong place for events but have been a spectator at Carolina Motor Sports Park and the Mille 2011 at Atlanta Speedway in the past. I do go to Davidson often and seems to be a hot spot for newer Porsches.

A few world class roadcourses within striking distance so check the regional PCA, SCCA, and track calenders for events.

Terry
