How do you change the front hood emblem easily?

I just got my silver hood emblem from pelican and i an totally perplexed as to how i am supposed to get the two pegs that are still in the hood out. i figure that i could get in the underside of the hood with some needlenose pliers, but they wouldn't fix. a friend suggested that i get some fishing wire and try to get it underneath the heads of the pegs and pull the pins out. will this work?

how has anyone out there don't this? there's gotta be a trick right?

thanks

Stupid question here, but did you try pushing as well as pulling when working with the needle nose pliers?

unless yours id different thn mine...

it is a small twist lock nut...you will need it and a entension...

under the hood there should be 2 holes...when you twist the nuts, a 1/4 to 1/2 a turn will disengage them....

careful you don't drop them and lose them in the hood sheetmetal pockets...

then I would push the studs up from underneath rather then pry off the emblem...

installation is reverse of removal...have fun..post pics!!!!

I'm very confused by this question? Did you pry off the old emblem and break it in the process? The emblem is screwed on from underneath the hood.

This is Project 73 in the 101 Book...

You know, the reviewer in European Car poked fun at the book for having this project in there. But to some people, it's just not obvious...

David-
believe they are 8mm nuts holding the emblem pegs. as 82SC mentioned, undo them carefully and do not drop them......

just to clarify, i brought my car to the body shop, it came back and then the emblem mysteriously disappeared. it seems that the crest broke off of the two pins. i totally understand that i need to get to the quick lock nuts on the underside of the hood via the two holes, but how do i get up in there, a really thin socket extension?

btw, wayne if you're reading this, i love the silver crest (in spite of the 300% price discrepancy). i'll post pics when i get in on my black carrera.

FWIW, those are twist hex nuts, but they don't always unscrew readily from my last experience. Had to sacrifice the emblem using a dremel and cutoff wheel. The car was being repainted so we had some leway with error;) .

I just ordered the replacement for my 81SC from E-bay ($35 + shipping). I dont think i got what i was looking for. The replacement is slightly smaller than the original and is a bit concave. The one on the car is flatter. Has anyone had similar experience.

I paid $45 wih shiping from e-bay for the same kit that Wayne sells. It had the part number visible in the picture. You may have received a knock off, there are lots of them on e-bay.
Mine is more curved than the one currently on my car. Probably mine has been flattened by 33 years of pushing down on it by PO's to close the trunk. (Don't do that)
The new one fits perfectly.

The little nuts have a sticky putty on them, and I have found MANY just stuck on the inner hood, on more than one car. If you get in there and look around, you might find several, too.
Raising and lowering the hood can bring loose ones down to where you can fish around and drag them out. When putting in/on new ones, just be careful; have someone else hold your emblem in place and then you push the fresh nut onto the stud. Use a flashlight....
I have always done it alone, but it can be 'trying'. Just Porsche fun....

What do you mean you got it back from the body shop and THEN the emblem disappeared? Did it fall off on the road somewhere or something. Did the body shop do the damage & then stuck the thing on with some kind of adhesive? If they did, they owe you a new emblem. Sounds like they may not have known what they were doing.
