Speakers for 86 Cab

Hi all -- I have a very original 86 Cab that I want to keep original, but still want to listen to the original radio.

Any recommendations for speakers that will fit in the original door and rear quarter locations w/no mods?

Thanks.

I used Polks...really like the sound. I experimented with a subwoofer and didn't care for it or the restricted up/down movement of the passenger seat due to its mounting location.

dB401 in the rear under the original covers (Polk Audio db401 4" 2-way car speakers at Crutchfield.com).

dB521 in the doors also under the original covers (Polk Audio db521 5-1/4" 2-way car speakers at Crutchfield.com).

I like the SE, SC and SR range of Boston Acoustics for their value. You'll never get a great big sound with the size of the standard speakers but they'll be a step up from stock. They may not fit under the stock grills, though.

Cattler --

Thanks for the info. I went to order those on Crutchfield.com and it looks OK for the 521s in the front door, but the site says the db401s are "not recommended for your vehicle".

Did you have to mod anything in the rear quarters for the 401s?

Thanks.

I think these would work for the back but you need to verify. I used Blaupunkt shallow mount speakers and reused the stock speaker grill, but I can't find info to verify exact speaker model.

Thanks Dublin, but I think 4x6 will only work for a coupe, not a cab.

Yup--just pulled them and checked. I used the dB401s.

Thanks Cattler -- I'll place the order with Crutchfield as soon as I can.
