Removing plastic headlight intermediate ring from 1975 911S

I'm getting all of the chrome redone, including the headlight rings on my 75 911S and can't figure out how to get the plastic intermediate ring off without breaking it. Anyone have any tips for me? (Part 911 631 135 00)

Are you talking sugar scoop trim rings? If so, I have the same question. There is that round plastic piece that fits to the sugar scoop ring with some tabs it looks like. But I don’t know if you are supposed to bend those tabs or what because I worry they might break.

As I recall from when I re-chrome mine, I was able to free up two of the bent clips (I think at the narrow end) by massaging them out. The other two I needed to straighten ever so slightly with a flat head pair of pliers or flat screw driver. Not all the way straight, but just enough to free the chrome one slot at a time. It won't take much to free it from the scoop.
